All Things Go, All Things Go
My high-school soulmates over at All Things Go have begun to post their individual top 10 mixes, and I definitely recommend you head over there and check it out. They’re a great (not to mention adorable!) group of guys with a nice eclectic blend of music tastes, and you’re guaranteed to find something you like over there. I’ve got to draw attention to two of the picks on their lists, as they’re possibly-unheard and actually incredible songs that you all need to give a listen to.
First of all, from Adrian’s list, was Brand New’s “Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don’t”, which is firmly entrenched in my top five songs of all time. I’m not kidding, this is actually - according to my calculations - my third favorite song of all time (behind only “Such Great Heights” and “Banquet”), but I’m sure many of you passed up the chance to listen to it due to the crippling “emo” tag that Brand New’s been forced to drag around. Just because The Notwist started out as a German hardcore band doesn’t mean people still pass them off as shitty German hardcore, does it? So why should Brand New be any different? Let’s get evolved here, people. These are some of the best lyrics I’ve ever heard, please give it a listen, and let me know what you think in the comments.
“Okay I Believe You…” - Brand New [highly highly recommended]
Secondly, Austin, who remains a consistent source of new music for me, included Mew’s incredible “Am I Wry? No” on his ten-song mix, and I’m afraid nowhere near enough people have experienced this song. Yes, it’s an experience. It open with this industrial whirring-type noise, then all of a sudden you’re full on assaulted by heavenly bliss. At the 27-second mark of the song, some of the most blissful and epic guitar riffs I’ve ever heard emerge like audible rays of sunlight, and you know you should clear out your schedule because your life’s about to get changed. Lead singer Jonas Bjerre’s (yeah, it’s a guy, I was shocked too) shrill vocals are a bit off-putting at first, and some might like this song better if it were purely instrumental, but I still have to demand that this be listened to. Optimized listening suggestions: turn out the light, get comfortable, alter your consciousness (optional, depending on how you roll), either close your eyes or turn on the iTunes visualizer, and get taken to a dreamworld of magic (Chris Parnell-approved). Also, check out “Treehouse” by I’m From Barcelona, an amazing track I hadn’t heard before, as well as the Adam Arcuagi song he posted over there, which is pure, unaldultered and unsigned indie goodness. Enjoy:

Mew are the greatest Denmark has to offer. You should check out their epic “Comforting Sounds” on Frengers if you haven’t already, you will not regret it. If possible, get their latest album “And The Glass Handed Kites” — nothing short of a masterpiece. All the songs are fused together to create a complex blissful, and melancholic journey for those who embark on it. I can’t highly recommend them enough to people, glad you like them.
