We! Are! Your Friends!
After seeing my last post, my main man Ben from Videoteque and Work For It hooked me up with an incredible mashup that uses the same Simian sample, called “C’mon Fuck Me” by DJ Zebra. DJ Zebra takes the instrumentation from The Von Bondies 2004 jam “C’mon, C’mon”, dresses it up in some electronic bells and whistles, and mashes it with the verses from Princess Superstar’s “Fuck Me On The Dancefloor” and the choruses of Fatboy Slim’s “Right About Now” and Simian’s “We Are Your Friends”. The pitch of The Von Bondies’ chorus and Simian’s dancefloor yelps match up perfectly, and this is easily one of the best mash ups I’ve ever heard.

And while we’re still on the topic of Simian, the band broke up in 2005 but two of its members, James Ford and Jas Shaw, went on to form splinter group Simian Mobile Disco, who are yet to release an album but are in huge demand as remixers. Their latest offering is “Hustler”, put out on the second installment of Kitsuné Records’ incredible Kitsune Maison compilation series. I’ll be doing a full post on the Kitsune Maison comp soon, but for now here is Simian Mobile Disco’s “Hustler”. Kitsuné, my current record label obsession right now (Bloc Party, Tom Vek, Hot Chip, Digitalism, and SMD all have releases on the label), have just released “Hustler” as a 12″; peep the hotness for yourself below.
