THOU SHALT ALWAYS KILL
Thou shalt not steal if there is direct victim.
Thou shalt not worship pop idols or follow lost prophets.
Thou shalt not take the names of Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer, Johnny Hartman, Desmond Decker, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix or Syd Barret in vain.
Thou shalt not think that any male over the age of 30 that plays with a child that is not their own is a peadophile… Some people are just nice.
Thou shalt not read NME.
Thall shalt not stop liking a band just because they’ve become popular.
Thou shalt not question Stephen Fry.
Thou shalt not judge a book by it’s cover.
Thou shalt not judge Lethal Weapon by Danny Glover.
Thall shalt not buy Coca-Cola products. Thou shalt not buy Nestle products.
Thou shalt not go into the woods with your boyfriend’s best friend, take drugs and cheat on him.
Thou shalt not fall in love so easily.
Thou shalt not use poetry, art or music to get into girls’ pants. Use it to get into their heads.
Thou shalt not watch Hollyokes.
Thou shalt not attend an open mic and leave before it’s done just because you’ve finished your shitty little poem or song you self-righteous prick.
Thou shalt not return to the same club or bar week in, week out just ’cause you once saw a girl there that you fancied but you’re never gonna fucking talk to.
Thou shalt not put musicians and recording artists on ridiculous pedestals no matter how great they are or were.
The Beatles… Were just a band.
Led Zepplin… Just a band.
The Beach Boys… Just a band.
The Sex Pistols… Just a band.
The Clash… Just a band.
Crass… Just a band.
Minor Threat… Just a band.
The Cure… Just a band.
The Smiths… Just a band.
Nirvana… Just a band.
The Pixies… Just a band.
Oasis… Just a band.
Radiohead… Just a band.
Bloc Party… Just a band. [ed.’s note: this is debatable]
The Arctic Monkeys… Just a band.
The Next Big Thing.. JUST A BAND.
Thou shalt give equal worth to tragedies that occur in non-english speaking countries as to those that occur in english speaking countries.
Thou shalt remember that guns, bitches and bling were never part of the four elements and never will be.
Thou shalt not make repetitive generic music, thou shalt not make repetitive generic music, thou shalt not make repetitive generic music, thou shalt not make repetitive generic music.
Thou shalt not pimp my ride.
Thou shalt not scream if you wanna go faster.
Thou shalt not move to the sound of the wickedness.
Thou shalt not make some noise for Detroit.
When I say “Hey” thou shalt not say “Ho”.
When I say “Hip” thou shalt not say “Hop”.
When I say, he say, she say, we say, make some noise… kill me.
Thou shalt not quote me happy.
Thou shalt not shake it like a polaroid picture.
Thou shalt not wish you girlfriend was a freak like me.
Thou shalt spell the word “Pheonix” P-H-E-O-N-I-X not P-H-O-E-N-I-X, regardless of what the Oxford English Dictionary tells you.
Thou shalt not express your shock at the fact that Sharon got off with Bradley at the club last night by saying “Is it”.
Thou shalt think for yourselves.
And thou shalt always… Thou shalt always kill!

I thought this song was awesome, then I heard the Stephen Fry name-drop, and I am not convinced that this is the best song ever.

Excellent!
I’ve wanted lyrics for this track for bloody ages yet could not be fucked to work them out myself.
Nice.
February 11th, 2007 at 11:37 pm
what is so great about this? the tune is mildly annoying and the lyrics are hardly witty or intelligent. but that’s just my opninion…
February 12th, 2007 at 1:31 am
I JUST CAME BACK FROM SEEING BLOC PARTYYYY!!! first time, and they blew me away.
February 12th, 2007 at 5:23 am
I don’t what you’ve been smoking, but it clearly works!
February 12th, 2007 at 12:09 pm
A-fucking-men!
February 12th, 2007 at 1:33 pm
Found out about Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip a couple weeks back on XFM’s Exposure Show, which was quite impressive. Still one of the best things I’ve heard in absolutely ages, IMHO.
Also, if you like this, check out A Letter From God, which is on their Myspace (http://www.myspace.com/lesacvspip).
February 12th, 2007 at 3:17 pm
debatable indeed.
Bloc are religion.
or not.
whatever.
February 12th, 2007 at 3:20 pm
Bloc Party… Just a band. [ed.’s note: this is debatable]
what do you mean by this, that aren’t even a band or are more than just a band
February 12th, 2007 at 3:59 pm
heard this on the radio a few weeks ago, couldn’t get hold of it anywhere but their myspace page (so annoying!). such a great track!
plus, brand new where ace in glasgow on friday!
February 12th, 2007 at 4:49 pm
haha hollyoaks! also the awesomeness of brand new is seconded, they competely blew away manchester, huge set, brilliant atmosphere, love it.
February 12th, 2007 at 5:55 pm
I haven’t been reading mp3 blogs for more than about six months or so, but this might be the best post ever.
February 12th, 2007 at 6:03 pm
awesomeness… pity about the inclusion of Oasis tho…
February 12th, 2007 at 7:45 pm
is this the big surprise?
February 12th, 2007 at 8:04 pm
Awesome mate, so so good. Featured this fresh tune on the show this evening. The podcast is up. I have to say Harry and I are indebted to you.
February 13th, 2007 at 8:43 am
That is so good I can barely handle it!
February 13th, 2007 at 11:22 am
Yeah, it’s not that good.
February 13th, 2007 at 11:57 am
unbelievable!
February 13th, 2007 at 1:31 pm
um, sorry, but just not feeling this. sounds like a lame update of the annoying “wear sunscreen” tune from years back. would have been better without the dude overtop the beats. weak. thanks though!
February 13th, 2007 at 5:22 pm
Holy crap, I like it.
February 14th, 2007 at 1:48 am
just heard this on the radio before and had to goole it. Love the lyrics.
February 14th, 2007 at 10:19 pm
this is so different. I love how he repeats, “thou shalt not make repetitive generic music” four times. I wish the beats were more developed, but I guess that may distract the lyrics. lovely find.
February 17th, 2007 at 8:58 pm
Shame to be giving it away 3 weeks before it comes out to buy :s just the way of the web I suppose. I stopped sharing it in early dec last year, due to forthcoming release
February 20th, 2007 at 7:15 am
could you stop sharing the thou shalt mp3 and contact me via my email address about what we discussed on myspace. cheers dan

March 9th, 2007 at 5:31 pm

March 10th, 2007 at 5:28 am

March 13th, 2007 at 4:53 pm
Good, but a rip off of LCD Soundsystem. Laughed that this one has to name drop well known bands, he obviously doesn’t know any obscure ones!
March 14th, 2007 at 12:25 am
This song is greatly done. It’s done in such a way even the uneducated idiots of the UK could understand. It takes everything that at leat one person everywhere loves and rips it to shreds. If that is not ingenius, then rip me a new arsehole.
I think the nail has been hit on the head, it’s simple and really does make you see that popular culture is just pathetic in what it does. It’s a masterpiece. ALready, even on this webpage people are bitching about certain things which is great to see how much of an impact this song will make.
Finally, even though I like pretty much everything this song points out, I really admire Dan Le Sac and Scroobius Pip for this wonderful piece of art.
March 14th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
i personally think this song is genious.
if you are an indie ptick you probably wont appreciate it as much as you should because lets face it,your whole life is pretty much revolved around what pete & kate “teh sex” are currently wearing and what drugs they have recently done.
this song sums up so many waste of space people
amen.
March 14th, 2007 at 2:33 pm
PS
“Good, but a rip off of LCD Soundsystem. Laughed that this one has to name drop well known bands, he obviously doesn’t know any obscure ones! ”
he’s naming mainstream bands which people follow as if there’s no tommorrow.
March 14th, 2007 at 4:21 pm
Just heard this on X-FM and immediatly had to find out about it. thanks for the lyrics! mazing song. There are a few people I know who if I ever hear them singing this I will throw it in their hypocritical faces…

Hey Huw
Your post mentions
“Thou shall not waste time listening to it” and “For each bit of brilliance there is more than an equal measure of real shit. Look at the following lines for example”
When I say “Hey” thou shalt not say “Ho”.
When I say “Hip” thou shalt not say “Hop”.
Thall shalt not buy Coca-Cola products. Thou shalt not buy Nestle products.
Thou shalt not use poetry, art or music to get into girls’ pants. Use it to get into their heads.
There is a whole load more. Look, what is this? do we need some guy to tell us to think for ourselves,
Huw thinks not.
You obviously think your meager intelligence gives you some sort of advantage over us mere mortals and that you obviously know what is best for us.
Whats wrong did they open mic line touch a sore spot??
D
March 22nd, 2007 at 4:16 pm
Ever heard of irony, the reason I used your original message was to show the hypocrisy contained within it. You were criticizing the artist/band for telling us what we shouldn’t do or like when you were doing the exact same thing. Hence the reason for using extracts from your original post as detailed below.
(Tell us to think for ourselves, i think not. This young man has obviously stretched his meager intelligence and social commentary to the limit. It is his tour de force - good for him - but it doesn’t make it worth listening to).
Oasis, just a band, you really are a fountain of knowledge. Do you mind if I pass your address onto Liam and Noel?
Thou shall learn basic English before using your Thesaurus and criticising other peoples intelligence - eg:
meager, i,

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…
Oh dear maybe I need to draw you a diagram. I was never defending the lyrical content I was merely pointing out your hypocrisy.
Homophobic, judgemental there really is no end to your talents. Oh and the Oasis comment, try referring back to the post you made previously.
Totally and utterly bored of you and your inane ranting, this is the last I have to say on this matter or indeed any matter involving you.
Sorry folks if these posts have got a little dull but I just hate hypocrites.
Bye-e

the bit about phoenix made me laugh, my friends boyfriends last name is phoenix. we often argue on how it is spelt! aha
x
April 3rd, 2007 at 1:25 pm
heard it this morning for the first time - great hearing Strummer, Barrett and Crass!! (just a band) getting name checked on daytime Radio One
love the Steven Fry reference and mentioning Crass after the clash (just a band)
Beaks his own rules about not putting artists on a pedistal in the third line though.
If the Clash were just a band but you can’t take Strummer’s name in vain - how does that work then? also seeing he nameschecks Syd - but not his band, does that mean Pink Floyd are more than just a band?
Listening to it again - some good lines, some crap - biased against pop & hip hop. It is ripping off LCD soundsystem - also reminds me of that song that either Rob Da Bank or Huw Stevens played on one music by Jeggsy Dodd
April 3rd, 2007 at 5:59 pm
Thou shalt love this song !
fucking love it .. cnt stop playing it
and its all true
best lines -
Thou shalt not shake it like a polaroid picture.
Thou shalt not wish you girlfriend was a freak like me.

April 17th, 2007 at 6:58 am
I may be anal, but this is kind of fundamental in a way to these lyrics - Phoenix is in fact correct. That’s the name of both the place and the animal. Am I missing something or has he in fact made a mistake? It’d be a shame if he has.
April 18th, 2007 at 5:55 pm
i agree with mr lloyd. read and agreed with every lyric until the one about phoenix. thats how its always been spelt. and if its spelt that way in the oed then thats precisely why you should spell it that way. still very original and enjoyable record tho!
April 19th, 2007 at 3:08 pm
Oh i love this song so much! i can’t find it in any shop near me though which is very annoying.
Oh and one little thing, the version i have says “thou shalt not stop liking a band OR COMEDIAN”
Maybe it’s just the live version i have though?
Anyway, love it.

Why are you all taking it so seriously, I apply to so many things in that song, but I don’t fucking care because I can laugh at it, and I can laugh at myself for doing them! Chill out! Stop analysing it so much!
May 11th, 2007 at 5:44 am
What theay mean when they say:
“Thou shalt spell the word “Pheonix” P-H-E-O-N-I-X not P-H-O-E-N-I-X,”
is that it SOUNDS like you should write: pheonix. You say Phenix, not Phonix…
That’s the joke about it. That it makes no sense.
I love this Tune!
(and so so SO agree with the Coca-cola, Nestle thing: Those companies suck!)
May 14th, 2007 at 4:16 am
I agree with what he says for the most part but I can’t stand how he presents it. This stuff isn’t really deep or edgy, it’s just obvious stuff anyone with half a brain knows. He’s so preachy and self-righteous that it bugs the shit out of me. He spends the entire song telling you what to do etc. then tells you to think for yourself at the end, which kind of negates the whole point of the song…
May 18th, 2007 at 7:01 pm
It may seem like “obvious stuff anyone with half a brain knows” yet we’ve all been there and done/thought/felt/contributed to at least one or two of those listed things. And we’ve known, in the back of our minds at least, that they were futile, but we did/do/think/feel them anyway! It’s a sign of humanity and perhaps indicates that we have more in common with each other than we like to think. Or perhaps most of us are just using less than half our brains?!!
The more people find out about the evils of Coca-Cola and Nestle and then DO something about it, (i.e. STOP buying their crap) the better!
Great song - can’t believe I’ve only just found it…

June 15th, 2007 at 11:25 am
It is an amazing song!! and no, we don’t need a guy to tells us what to do or don’t, but isn’t the fact that he openly talks about all that shit just “nice”? I mean, I this isn’t the new Lord’s prayer, just a fun and smanrt song about some things that go off limits in the mainstream… Or am I over-reading that “thou shalt think for yourselves”?
July 2nd, 2007 at 11:24 am
This might explain a bit behind their performance:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqalTO2udzM
Art doesn’t take individuals to explain it. Art is to what one person art says it is. I personally don’t think that he intended it to be a brilliant musical composition. It’s opinion, creatively presented bit of performance art. To get what he’s saying, not agree with it or disagree is more the point. I love that people can do that.

i only saw this song’s video this morning…and i was googling it and found all of this etc….dated at least 4 months ago!!!

considering they were featured in NME

how so many people take this song and/or its lyrics and/or intended meaning so seriously truly amazes me.
i mean, its a song. so what if you like it more or less than someone else? you dont have to take everything so personally.
