Spring Break: Cuba

So yeah, while all the cool kids are down in Austin at SXSW I’ll be keepin’ it real in Cuba for the rest of the week, so expect posts to resume when I get back on Monday.
For now though, here’s the jam of the day, courtesy of Arizona’s finest, Dear and the Headlights. And yes, that’s right, I actually just posted a track from an American band, so you know it must be really good (it is).
MP3: “It’s Gettin’ Easy” - Dear and the Headlights ((highly recommended))
And fuck it, I don’t want to leave you hanging; here are a few other tracks that have been getting heavy rotation on the pod all week.
MP3s:
“Birds” - Kate Nash ((highly recommended))
“Man Overboard” - Polytechnic ((highly recommended))
“Riverside” - Kid Harpoon
“Just Like Heaven” - David E. Sugar
Enjoy, hopefully these significantly hot jams will tide you over until Monday. “Birds” and “Man Overboard” are PHENOMENAL. Just saying.

I’ve been obsessed with the david sugar mix of just like heaven for some time now. i went on a huge just like heaven cover/remix splurge one night, and this was by far my favorite of those i found

You do mean ‘Man Overboard’ by blink-182, right?

Kate Nash is lovely.

You should post a song from the great 80s album Cuba by The Silos

is kate nash some sick side project of lily allen trying to do joanna newsom?

Thanks man…cool blog. When you get back from cuba, please check out two great bands: The Feeling and Quiet Company (if you haven’t done so already). You gave me 5 recommendations with this post so I thought I should at least attempt a couple.
Great blog dude. I’ll definitely be coming back.

kate nash does sound like joanna newsom, but for me, she instantly reminded me of regina spektor…seriously…if she didn’t have a british accent, i would have a hard time believing that was not regina…maybe they’re buddies

yeah, I would also like to second dave’s (friend of mine) recommendation for quiet company–great great band. their album, i think got lost, and slipped through everyone’s vision (and ears) in 2006. in fact, I think I dropped an im about them to you a while back.

The Feeling are kind of shit.
Kate Nash has a great voice, I’d ignore her first single ‘Caroline is a Victim’ and just concentrate on the B-sides, of which ‘Birds’ is obviously great, and her other stuff. ‘Caroline’ was more of an ironic record to be honest.
She has been dubbed, the ‘new Lily Allen’ by a wide range of British music/fashion publications.
I’d check out: Bat For Lashes (check any blog), Bird and the Bee, nad Laura Marling.

Oh, please don’t come back from cuba and post the buena vista social club.
March 19th, 2007 at 6:38 pm
…yeah… umm…Kate Nash is kind of shit.
The Feeling, on the other hand…haha…yeah I’m not gonna do that (and I’m kind of liking Kate Nash, along with the other artists in this post)…
haha…They are what they are–which is, in my opinion, a fun little encapsulation of Brit Pop music through the years. I’d check out their British release and not their U.S. release; It kind of got messed up (think: The Beatles U.S. releases). I could understand why people would dismiss them as commercialized, manufactured “pop” music (or “kind of shit”), but hey, to each their own.
