Tribulations: Part II
Alright, Dreamhost just has it out for us. You may remember a few weeks ago I got my account shut down without any advance warning whatsoever and without any kind of formal complaint ever reaching me. Thanks to one Mr. Nicky Berger, who donated his entire server to us, I was able to get shit back up and running in no time, but hey guess what - Dreamhost shut us down again. I’ve spent too much money on this shit to afford to pay for the bandwith and server space it takes to keep this place up and running and will definitely not be working with Dreamhost EVER again, so for the foreseeable future we’ll be kicking it old school around these parts, using external hosting (mainly zShare, MediaFire and MegaUpload). It sucks, I know, but there’s nothing I can do about it. Discobelle’s been making it work for them for over a year now, though, so I guess it’s not the end of the world.
That said, there is something you can do to help. See that DONATE button right over their on the sidebar? Well, for one, you could donate if you wanted to. I’d like to take this time to thank the nine people who have donated money since this site started in two years ago, but yeah, it’s going to take a little more than nine minimal (though greatly appreciated!) donations to get things back up and running around these parts. I’ve never been one to use external hosting and have always loved being able to provide direct downloads for you guys, so if anyone has any brilliant ideas be sure to let me know in the comments, hit me up on AIM (screen name = DerekDavies) or email me at DerekDavies@aol.com. Sorry about this, hopefully we can get this resolved sooner rather than later.

Good luck, Derek. Btw, I read through RSS so I’d put a paypal link in the body of your post. When I followed the link to the post I couldn’t see the link, so I had to go to the main page.

Yo, what are the details now? Have they indicated why they are dickheads? I’m on their shit too and have had them hassle me because of their unrealistic spam policy.

I’ve been using a variety of free hosts that allow direct downloads for a while now and just rotate them pretty often.
Fileden.com
UploadingIt.com
Juicewire.net
Filexoom.com
Boxstr.com
FileGiant.net
That gives me about 400GB transfer per month which is all I need at the moment, so maybe use one or some of these and then zshare as well could work for you?
Then of course mediafire are awesome for hosting the zips of mixes.

sorry to hear about your filehosting woes. believe me, i’ve been through enough of them as well. at, somewhat like you, i have found myself at the mercy of external hosting. the sites i would recommend are:
eggdisk.com [slow speeds but unlimited bandwith, allegedly]
filexoom.com [quickest uploads i’ve ever had]
oh, and i always use gigasize.com for hosting zip files. they’re quick and extremely dependable.
cheers,
billy

I was enlightened to your site recently by a friend (last week), and I have checked it out everyday since. The direct DLs are indeed wonderful. I hope that no matter how you decide to resolve this issue, you will continue offering them.
With all that said, I gladly donated via pay pal and I encourage everyone else to do the same. Granted, I’m not “Mr. MoneyBags” over here, but I can at least afford to buy you a few cups of Starbucks for your hard work. As I imagine most visiting this site would be able to do as well.
1138267 (Sight’s current counter read) x $2.50 (small latte) = fun for all!
Good Weather provides a valuable service, and I feel some manner of financial responsibility should fall on to us the consumers. After all, that’s what this is all about, support.

You might want to look into GoDaddy - I have 5g storage/250g bandwidth for 4 bucks a month - they have some other options really well priced, so you might want to check that out.
Hope that helps!

I’ve been using lunarpages.com to host my site and I recommend them highly…for $95 a year I get 250gb of storage and 2.500gb of transfer a month. Love the site,

Really sad news:( I hope you get the site up and running soon, but until then I’ll try to help. www.servage.com, it has 310GB of hostingspace and 3000GB monthly traffic. Take a look.

I hope you’ll come back soon, loved most of your reviews. I recognised sometimes the same taste in genre and opinion. Gl

DUUUUUUUUUDE The Brand New concert kicked my ass so hard. Manchester Orchestra was excellent (my friend who, along with me, had never heard of them before bought a shirt after their spectacular 5-song set), Kevin Devine was alright, but two of the last 3 songs in his set (during which every member of Brand New and Manchester Orchestra came out to create some kind of crazy 20-piece band) were Holland, 1945 by Neutral Milk Hotel and Smells Like Teen Spirit. When I heard ‘the only girl I ever loveeed!’, it was the pinnacle of my life for me and the two other people who knew the words.
Oh, and Brand New kicked a million asses, despite the fact that their set was mostly mellow in the middle. I’m kind of sure I saw you there, also. You weren’t at Irving Plaza last night?
