A Seriously Happy New Year
Fuck 2007, 2008 is where it’s at. It’s such a great time to be in DC right now. First and foremost, the Redskins are 4-0 since burying Sean Taylor and look nigh-on unstoppable heading into the playoffs. A month ago I would have laughed in your face if you told me the Redskins would be in the playoffs, let alone looking like the most dangerous team in the NFC, but here we are cruising into the post-season on the strength of Todd Collins’ ridiculously hot hand and the sudden resurgence of Clinton Portis and Santana Moss as two of the most explosive offensive threats in the league. I mean, Todd Fucking Collins, people. Dude hadn’t played in ten years and now he’s orchestrated one of the greatest late-season turnarounds in NFL history. Amazing.

So yeah, obviously my DC pride is out of control right now, so I can’t help but get excited about the fact that the next great thing in mainstream hip-hop looks to be DC’s own Wale. My main man Zack got me way into him over the Thanksgiving break and his big single “Nike Boots” is everywhere on DC radio, and you really can’t listen to this guy and tell me he doesn’t sound like the next Kanye. Furthermore, he’s signed to Mark Ronson’s Allido label and seems to have impeccable taste in the tracks he remixes if his 100 Miles & Running mixtape is anything to go by. I know it’s a departure from the kind of shit we’re normally up on around these parts, but “Nike Boots” is as good a rap single as I’ve heard all year and his “D.A.N.C.E.” remix is just all kinds of amazing. Get at “Nike Boots” below, as well as that “D.A.N.C.E.” remix, which just might be my favorite Justice remix of the year (I know, call me crazy). I’d be lying if I said my heart doesn’t melt a little bit every time I hear that “I love you DC” right before the beat drops and that go-go beat he brings in at the end is just icing on the cake.

In other news, Rya’s back and better than ever and will have her Best of 2007s all up in your kool aid tomorrow, and my lists will be following shortly thereafter.

DC is on the rise right now. Everybody on WALE right now but he isn’t the only one from the City.
What about Tabi Bonney and XP?
XP is the Truth! He got that Soulful Gangster sound. XP is the best rapper from DC with writing songs man. I would buy that album today if it came out. He already sold like 10,000 records out here with no Major Label Backing him. Thats hustle!!
Check it out

A) You’re late on the Wale bandwagon, son! First time I’ve ever seen you laggin’ on anything musical!
B) The Redskins the most dangerous team in the N.F.C.? Don’t be ignorant. And don’t give me crap about the Cowboys game. It meant nothing to us whereas y’all were fighting for a playoff spot. T.O. and Terrence Newman, often considered our best players at offense and defense respectively, were both out. Romo didn’t play for a good chunk of the game. Should I go on? I mean, we’re hardly a hot team, but I’m infinitely more scared of the Packers than the ‘Skins.

Shit. I thought the guy on the cover of URB was Kanye West.
Haha.

Greg,
in regards to your redskins comment: false. we had you on the ropes in dallas a few weeks back, only losing 28-23 on a late INT in the endzone. Your cowboys are struggling, and our redskins are surging. and you can go on and on about how you guys werent trying, but, honestly, you looked worse than a team that just wasnt trying. 1 rushing yard? seriously? 1?

Greg,
A) I’m not really late on the Wale bandwagon, it’s just such a departure from the normal stuff we post around here that it took a while for an opportunity to post his stuff to present itself.
B) Don’t even get me started. You’re starters were in for the first half and I’d deign to say we owned you even harder then than we did in the second. And you’re worried about the Packers? I mean shit, you already beat them and the Skins would have done the same had Santana not coughed up that fumble late in the game, and that was even during our mid-season slump. You better hope the Seahawks play the game of their life and knock us out; feel free to start sweating at the prospect of facing Monsieur Portis and company in the second round.

a) I love this and who really cares whether Derek is on the bandwagon or not? The variety of tunes on this site are great and I couldn’t give a shit if he was first to post about them or not. I’m sure it’s a much better read here anyway.
b) The Seahawks have only lost like 4 games at Qwest in the last 3 years. So I think the Redskins are in for a very tough test but then they’re coming in hot (anything can happen). As a Cowboys fan myself I’m awfully scared of the skins if they take out Seattle. I would definitely much prefer to be playing Tampa or New York.

Phenomenal remixes! I love your blog. I’m going to add a link to it on mine, if you don’t mind.

Oh goodness, so much animosity.
About the bandwagon - who cares? I was joking around. I’m late on everything. Calm down, Good Weather faithful - I am one of you. Heck, this was one of my favorite blogs even before I started mine.
And as far as the ‘Skins are concerned, I’d still rather face the Packers. We’re playing like crap and I never said we were favorites, so don’t get at me like I’m some dude predicting that the ‘Boys roll to the S.B. I’d rather play the Redskins than the Giants. Even though we beat ‘em handily twice this year, the way the played N.E. makes me nervous.
Calm down, warriors of the internet. I kid.

OH LEAVE IT TO PANDATOES.
DAMN YOU PANDATOES.
that soulja boy remix is legit.
and this is war, just like kellen winslow said.
January 4th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
hail to the redskins!!!!
January 4th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
I thought this was meant to be a music blog? I understand the first post because yeh the guy died etc. I just hope it doesn’t become commonplace around here.
Cheers.
January 4th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Oh come on Josh… He used it to link onto Wale.
January 4th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
k, fair point, maybe im just a bit pissed cos I’m english and I have no clue what anyone is talking about when it comes to American Football.
January 4th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Dunc is right, your ‘Skins are in trouble when they come here to Seattle. While our Seahawks have been inconsistent at best this season, they are rock solid when playing at home. Qwest Field will be downright volatile on Saturday and I’m predicting a good, close game. The Seahawks will prevail, but I doubt we will go much farther than that. Good luck!

Great Remix
January 5th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
I wonder if we’ll still be hearing about new D.A.N.C.E remixes through 2008… seriously goes to show how fucking good that song was!
January 5th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
the was vs sea game is coming down to the wire. with sean taylor looking over them i dont think the skins will lose, but what do i know
January 5th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
and of course as soon as i hit submit comment mr. collins decides to throw a horrendous INT
January 5th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
‘Todd Collins’ first INT in 10 years’… that’s brilliant commentary right there.
January 5th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
not really feeling it. not saying it sucks, its good really good, just not my cup of tea. (im talking about the dance remix)
January 5th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Like your site, Zack. Hadn’t seen it before, but it looks quite nice.
Don’t hate on my oso digits, son!
January 5th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
And if it makes you D.C. folk feel any better about the loss, my Buckeyes are gonna get crapped on by L.S.U. No joke.
January 6th, 2008 at 8:18 am
Dang. This guy is totally going to be the new Kanye. This guy owns and I don’t even listen to rap… but this is SICK!
January 6th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Didnt even realise that this was the guy from the Mark ronson/Whinehouse - valerie video. He spits a hot little verse just before ronson gets going.
January 7th, 2008 at 1:48 am
Also, what do you think of the Weezy remix of “Nike Boots,” man?
